Hindu-Muslim riots take place in Bombay. 150 are killed or injured. Jinnah - the permanent president of the Muslim league, began to spread the rumors that Muslim minority was in danger under Hindu majority and actively propagated the theory of two separate nations.

1/12/1948Gandhiji decides to fast for communal peace in Delhi for communal riots which broke between Hindus and Muslims at Calcutta. Mountbatten fails to dissuade Gandhiji.
8/7/1925Monkombu Sambasivan Swaminathan was born in Kumbakonam. He went to Britain and took his Ph.D from the school of Agriculture in Cambridge in 1952. He developed high yielding strains of wheat and rice and accomplished difficult crosses in potato and jute species. In 1971, he was awarded The Ramon Magsaysay Award for generating a new confidence in the agricultural capabilities of the country. He was the Director of the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines. He is also the first agriculture scientist to win the Albert Einstein world science Award in 1986.

8/22/1877Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy, great painter, philosopher, linguist, critic, art researcher in the East, was born at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
11/20/1942Attri Devi, freedom fighter, was arrested for further six months. She was earlier arrested for personal satyagraha and to hoist the national flag in Delhi Central Jail on January 26.
7/2/1970Pandit Kunjilal Dubey, freedom fighter, educationalist and politician, passed away.
4/10/1982Indian National Satellite (INSAT-1A) launched. First operational multi-purpose communication and meteorology satellite procured from U.S.A.(Cape Canaveral).
