Dr. S.P. Tripathy, Director-General of ICMR, retired after 32 years of distinguished service in the ICMR, and Dr. G.V. Satyavati took over as the new Director-General of ICMR in July 1994. She became the first woman scientist in the country to head not only ICMR but any Research agency in independent India.

11/17/1932 | The Third Round Table Conference began in London. It was not attended by the Congress as the real Indian participation in the making of the constitution was negligible. Since Gandhi was in prison because of his civil disobedience movement he could not attend it either. This conference ended on 24th November 1932 without achieving anything. |
5/18/1972 | Kokan Krishi (Agriculture) University was established. |
1/16/1920 | Nani Palkhiwala, famous law expert, was born. |
10/2/1997 | At least 50 Pakistan soldiers were killed and several injured in a retaliatory firing by Indian troops in Nowgam, Uri and Kupwara sectors. Firing had been intermittent along LoC. |
