3/1/1971	Queen Elizabeth I granted its Royal Charter to the 218 Knights and merchants of the City of London who formed the East India Company. The venture failed to achieve its stated objectives -- it made little impression on the Dutch control of the spice trade and could not establish a lasting outpost in the East Indies.
1/1/1948	India raised voice against Pakistani infilatration in the country. A complaint was lodged in the Security Council of United Nation on Kashmir invasion.
1/23/1992	India becomes ASEAN dialogue partner.
9/16/1931	Political prisoners Tarkeshwar Dutta and Santosh Mitra were shot by an officer at Hijli detention camp near Kharagpur. They were arrested for attending the Hijli meeting.
9/17/1892	Shri Hanuman Prasad Poddar, social reformer, revolutionary and poet, was born in Shillong.
4/8/1894	Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, famous novelist and writer of national song 'Vande Mataram', died at the age of 55. Some of his writings are 'Anandmath' and 'Kapal Kundala'.
2/19/1986	Computerised railway ticket reservation system was introduced in New Delhi Railway station.
11/17/1932	The Third Round Table Conference began in London. It was not attended by the Congress as the real Indian participation in the making of the constitution was negligible. Since Gandhi was in prison because of his civil disobedience movement he could not attend it either. This conference ended on 24th November 1932 without achieving anything.
9/18/1993	Asit Sen, famous comedy actor and character artist, died.
1/20/2000	J&K accepts the report of the State Autonomy committee tabled in the Assembly last year.
