Louis G. 9/17/2012 City: Bloomington	To anyone interested in Indian, contemporary, and/or electronic music:Im Louis Goldford, a composer and graduate student at Indiana Universitys Jacobs School of Music. Ive written a piece of music for 1 percussionist and live electronics that Id like to submit to a conference of electro-acoustic music in St. Paul, which will take place this coming April. My piece calls for a percussionist who is somewhat familiar with South Indian Carnatic music and who can play the kanjira. The piece is rooted in South Indian performance traditions, and shares many of the same devices of form and improvisatory style. All of the electronic sounds are derived from sonograms of the kanjira itself. I operate the electronics from my laptop and provide accompaniment in the live performance, and my software is designed to follow the tempo of the kanjira player for a fully interactive experience.This piece doesnt rely on any prior knowledge of Western classical or notated music. There is limited notation, and the piece can be taught by rote. Please dont hesitate if you feel youre "inexperienced." If you have knowledge of Indian music or the kanjira, youre the person Im looking for!If you or anyone you know plays the kanjira and would be interested in collaborating and performing in St. Paul sometime on April 18-20, please let me know ASAP!
